Here is the late news of our next open-mic poetry session.
Friday 30 June 2017 – doors 6.30, Mic on at 7pm and dependent on numbers, through till 9pm.
An intimate and warm group of poetry lovers awaits you, the brave! The Cariad Cafe is open throughout. Share your own work, something you’re working on or your favourite verses from another. You get 5 minutes after your name is pulled from the hat.
We continue the search for a new venue in Beckenham (admittedly… have made little progress past initial exuberance of the opportunities!), and in the meantime, you are welcome to join us in the super spacious Blackfriars Settlement for Friday 24 February. It will be #openmic, #poetry, with cafe possibilities and 5 minutes of excellent audience enjoyability, for each of you ear-needy poets!
As you spout your latest, favourite, or work in progress. Also if you wish to share the origination of some other monger-of-words, then that’s cool too!
This is a real life event, of the free persuasion and is open to all; regardless of shoe colour or shampoo choice. All voices welcome. You might find more info from Facebook. Or you might skank around on Twitter?
In a tumultuous world, a world of apparently unending descent into division, where is the warmth? The Bonhomie? Where is the sensible ascent of humanity through the love of verse and appreciation of the dynamic, the diverse, the intertwined voices of people?
Yes that’s right; our theme for the December edition is LOVE!
Bring your best, worst, favourite, most tear-jerkingly audacious verse to #beckbeatpoetry December to share with our appreciative audience of word lovers.
New for the end of the year: #storytelling
You have 5 mins infront of other people. That is the only limitation on our Open-Mic event.
Doors open 6.30, the mic goes live at 7 for your own, or your favourites to be shared.
The audience are receptive, enthusiastic, and gone by 8PM!
Bring your tub thumping, cajole your anarchic, harness your sagacious to share with the wary at our November edition of #beckbeatpoetry. Live from The Beckenham Bookshop (Bromley’s finest bookshop), doors open 6.30 for live mic at 7PM. The event is free to attend and promises an intimate poetic atmosphere, an appreciative audience, and a selection of lovely pubs close-by.
Our theme this month will be “Revolt” and you are welcome to bring your own, your favourite or just spectate. Stand up and enjoy the warm buzz of ranting with amplification for 5 mins and sharing your word crafting with others.
Look out for the latest tales at https://facebook.com/beckbeatpoetry and follow our exploits on Twitter @beckbeatpoetry.
As you can see, I’m aiming to make Beck’ Beat Poetry something of a ‘Thing’, ergo – we have our second event in Southwark in mid-October. The event is hosted at the fabulous Blackfriars Settlement (A community organisation near Pocock Street).
The last one we had here (in August) was an excellent opportunity for a very diverse audience to enjoy an equally dynamic spectrum of poetic voices. The newly ‘corporatised’ interior of the Settlement was transformed. It literally resonated with emotions as our small collection of Open-Mic readers broke down barriers of ignorance and let their words weave magical strands of hope and destruction. It really was that good.
You can see a flavour of some of what occurred, in August, on the Facebook page. Please check it out (obvs)!
If you can make it to this epically central location on a Friday night in the middle of October, jump in and read us a few of your poems.
